Acrylic painting of my favorite Coffee shop in Arcadia California.
Sadly this gem of a mid century Modern California Coffee shop closed down last year for good, unless some miracle buyer re-opens it. My brother and I used to eat there whenever I was in town, he liked the French Dip, I always got the Peachy Peachy French toast with Whipped cream. The bright blue, the wonderful understated googie interior 1950's decor was featured in an episode of Mad Men, masquerading as a Howard Johnsons. I have sat in the very same booth where Jon Hamm sat. Sigh. This painting was done from a photo I took while eating there. I identify with the waitress (waited tables long ago myself) and folks have asked me if it's a self portrait.
No, it's not. I wish I knew her name. I miss Rod's already. Promise to paint the favoirite eateries of all of San Gabriel valley (So Cal) this next year or so. Northern CA too.
